2-year old injured in car-vs.-semi crash in Marshall

A 2-year-old boy was injured in a car-vs-semi crash Wednesday on U.S. 59.


According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2011 Peterbilt semi truck/trailer operated by Michael Lee Johnson, 36, of Appleton was southbound on U.S. 59, and a 2012 Buick Enclave operated by Matthew Alan Sandman, 36, of Tracy was northbound. The vehicles collided at the U.S. 59 intersection with Windstar Street in Marshall; the crash was reported at 11:43 a.m. Wednesday.


The 2-year-old boy was a passenger in the Sandman vehicle and was transported to Marshall's hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. Two other passengers in the Buick were uninjured, as was the Peterbilt driver.


The Marshall Police Department, Fire Department and Ambulance as well as the Lyon County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
