Youth group raising money for family of blind children

The Zion Lutheran Youth Fellowship in Ocheyedan, Iowa is still working to raise money for a northwest Iowa family that includes two children who are legally blind due to a genetic eye disease.

Andrew Larson, 12, and brother Lincoln Croatt, 9, are now both legally blind as a result of Lebers Hereditary Optic Neuropathy. The family has many needs that are not covered by insurance. Among them are a brailler, a computer that will translate printed material such as worksheets into braille as well as print braille in text form. A special iPad pro with a stand is also desired as is Orcam, a portable devise that enables visually impaired people to understand text and identify objects through audio feedback.

The family hopes to purchase a fun baseball that "beeps" so they can play catch and hit the ball.

Church youth are selling Casey's pizza punch cards for $20; each card has 10 punches on it. The cards expire on Aug. 31, 2024 and are good at all Casey's that make and sell pizzas.

People are encouraged to contact Marilee at (712) 754-3997 and give their name, phone number and number of cards requested. There are also cards that may still be available through the Worthington Middle School, as well as St. Mary's Catholic Church and Lakeside Church in Worthington. Financial contributions to the cause are welcome and may be arranged by calling the number above.
