It was a tough night for the Worthington Senior Legion baseball team Thursday night in Essig, as the Post 5 squad was defeated by Mankato American 18-1 in five innings in sub-state tournament action.
Mankato American managed 18 hits — 12 of them doubles — in topping Worthington, which had started the tourney with a victory over Faribault on Wednesday and a triumph over top-seeded Mankato National on Thursday afternoon.
Worthington remains alive in the tournament and will play a quarterfinals game against New Ulm at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Sleepy Eye.
