Worthington gets 18 inches of new snow in January

Worthington’s weather in January included snowfall totals almost double the monthly average, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The normal snowfall in Worthington in January is 9.8 inches. This past month, a total of exactly 18 inches of new snow was recorded. In terms of precipitation, the monthly January average is .71 inches; the corresponding amount this month was 1.3 inches. Six inches of snowfall was measured on Jan. 4, and five inches on Jan. 19.

The average high temperature in Worthington for this past month was 22.9 degrees, which is slightly warmer than the 22.6 degrees that is typical for the month. The warmest temperature was recorded on Jan. 25 at 35 degrees, and there wrere three different days with high temperatures of 32.

The average low temperature in Worthington this past January was 9.4 degrees, which is 4.1 degrees warmer than the typical January low of 5.3 degrees. The coldest readings of the month came on Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 at minus-12. There was also a low of minus-11 on Jan. 29.

Looking ahead to the coming month, the average high temperature for Worthington is 27.3 degrees and the average low 9.6. The normal precipitation is .82 inches; the normal snowfall is 10.9 inches.
