Vehicle backs through downtown Worthington business

WORTHINGTON – The Long Branch Saloon got a bit of a new look Tuesday before noon when a vehicle backed through the 10th Street wall of the building.

According to an officer at the scene, the elderly woman, who was not injured during the crash, had the car in reverse when the gas pedal got stuck. The vehicle launched up over the curb, over the sidewalk and a couple feet into the building. The car narrowly missed some plumbing located right inside the building.

A city-owned garbage can bolted to the sidewalk wasn’t quite as lucky, and was only held down by one bolt after the misadventure.

The incident was call into the Worthington Police Department shortly after 11:30 a.m. The vehicle was removed within the hour, leaving a gaping hole in the downtown business.
