There have been 465 people killed in traffic crashes from January to November of this year across Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Office of Traffic Safety.
This total represents an increase of 87 fatalities from all of 2020. Of these fatal accidents, 150 were speed-related, 114 were alcohol-related and 103 were not using seatbelts.
The Worthington Police Department participates in the Toward Zero Deaths (TZD) initiative. The initiative is a statewide campaign that provides federal funds to local law enforcement agencies to provide extra enforcement of traffic laws with an emphasis on impaired driving, occupant protection, speed and distracted driving.
