By 9pm Sunday night most mutual aid fire departments were allowed to return home from assisting Sibley Iowa Fire Department with a large train derailment. Sibley’s residents in the South and West parts of town were evacuated. Those evacuations were still in place as of 10pm Sunday night.
Over half a dozen departments were on the scene for up to 8 hours and donations of food and beverages flowed in to keep firefighters and crews fed and hydrated.
Union Pacific Rail crews had engines moving cars still on the rail at 9:30pm clearing the scene for clean up and investigation as to why the derailment happened.
Radio Works brought down the trailer grill and grilled burgers for hungry firefighters and crews on scene. Sibley-Ocheyedan Schools is 2 hours late Monday due to train accident and evacuation. We will have more updates as the come in from Sibley Fire and The Osceola County Sheriffs Department.
