A number of communities in the area are asking residents to reduce water usage as much as possible as wastewater facilities are at or near capacity due to extremely heavy rain that hit the region overnight.
Areas of Osceola County had received in excess of five inches as of early Friday morning. Extensive flooding is also being reported in portions of O’Brien County.
In southwest Minnesota, I-90 westbound and eastbound between Worthington and Luverne was closed due to flooding. Minnesota 91 north of Adrian and Nobles County 35 by Adrian were also reported as closed early Friday morning due to washouts. On Minnesota 86, two miles south of I-90, one lane was closed. Along U.S. 75, one lane is closed from Luverne to the Iowa border.
At about 11:30 a.m. Friday, Rock County announced the declaration of an emergency due to flooding. The county is advising no travel, as most roads in Rock County are under water. People are being asked to stay home, or wherever they may be located.
The Nobles County Sheriff’s Office has asked people to avoid travel on all township and gravel roads unless absolutely necessary or if they are a resident on them. The conditions are extremely unsafe and not suitable to drive on at this time.
Cottonwood County Emergency Management announced Friday that sandbags and sand are available in the Windom Arena parking lot. Bring your own shovel and fill your own bags.
