October weather was warmer, drier than what's typical

Worthington weather in October featured high temperatures that were a bit warmer than normal, lows slightly cooler than what’s typical and less precipitation than average conditions, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.


The normal average high temperature in Worthington in October is 58.9 degrees and the average low is 36.3 degrees, according to National Weather Service statistics. This year, those corresponding numbers are 61.2 degrees and 35.0 degrees, respectively, meaning that October highs were 2.3 degrees warmer than average and the month’s lows 1.3 degrees below normal.


October’s highest temperature in Worthington was 81 degrees, which was reported on the 23rd. That turned out to be the only 80-degree reading of the month. The coolest reading of the month in Worthington was 13 degrees, which was recorded on Oct. 18. There was also a low of 14 degrees on Oct. 19.


In terms of precipitation, Worthington had a measured total of .74 inches of moisture during the month of October. Comparatively, National Weather Service statistics indicate that the average rainfall for the month of October is 2.38 inches. Most of the month’s rain – a total of .54 inches -- was recorded on Oct. 5.


For the first 10 months of 2022, Worthington’s average high is 58.7 degrees and the average low is 36.0. Historical averages for January through October are 58.4 and 37.6 degrees. The total precipitation thus far has been 25.04 inches; the historical norm is 28.37 inches.
