Multiple races in Worthington as Election Day arrives

Tuesday is Election Day across the nation, and several races are in play across southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa.


The city of Worthington, specifically, has multiple positions going before voters. Three individuals are seeking the office of mayor. as Chad Cummings, Rod Sankey and Rick von Holdt are each running.


There are also multiple races for seats on the Worthington City Council. Cristina Esther Adame is seeking the Ward 1 city council seat, as is incumbent Larry Janssen. Three people are running for a Ward 2 city council seat, as incumbent Alaina Kolpin is being challenged by Nathalie Tshioko Nkashama and America Voss.


In Worthington Independent School District 518, four individuals are running for three open seats. Candidates for the school board will be incumbents Adam Blume and Lori Dudley, LaDean “Butch” Fletcher and Erin Schutte Wadzinski.


All offices up for election in Nobles County have candidates that are running unopposed. Besides other races within their communities, southwest Minnesota residents will choose representatives in the Minnesota House and Minnesota Senate, statewide races that include governor, attorney general and secretary of state, and the U.S. House of Representatives.
