The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites the public to provide feedback on design concepts for the Humiston Avenue segment of U.S. 59 in Worthington. MnDOT will host an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the JBS Fieldhouse, 700 Second Ave. in Worthington.
No formal presentation is planned, and community members will be able to talk with project staff and share input. Additionally, MnDOT staff will be at the Worthington International Festival from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 15 in the park of the Nobles County Government Center, 315 10th St., Worthington, and at the Worthington Farmers Market from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 18 at the downtown Worthington Pavilion. Community members will be able to review the Humiston Avenue design concepts and provide input at both events.
MnDOT is developing a project on U.S. 59 in Worthington to improve pavement, safety, and traffic flow. After conducting a study on this area in 2017, the Oxford Street segment is moving forward as a four-lane configuration with some access modifications. The project team is evaluating the Humiston Avenue segment and considering a number of design alternatives, all of which are intended to improve safety and traffic flow.
Public input received will help the project team select a design for Humiston Avenue to move forward as part of the U.S. 59 project that's planned for 2027 construction.
