May weather much warmer, drier than typical

Worthington's weather in May included high and low temperatures that were warmer than normal and drier than average conditions, according to data compiled at the Worthington Wastewater Treatment Plant.


The average high temperature in Worthington this past month was 73.5 degrees, which is 5.5 degrees warmer than what’s typical. There were highs of 80 degrees or warmer on 10 days during the month, including eight consecutive 80-plus readings to finish off May. The warmest high of the month, 89, was recorded on May’s final day.


The average low in Worthington in May was 49.7 degrees, which is 3.9 degrees above the normal of 45.8. There were lows in the 30s on the first four days of the month, with 33 on May 2 the lowest. After those initial four days, the next coldest reading of May came on the 19th at 40 degrees.


Worthington received 1.76 inches of precipitation during the month of May, which is much less than the 4.09 inches that's typical. The wettest day came with .64 inches of rain on May 14; there was also .56 inches of rain measured the previous day.


Thus far, for the first five months of 2023, there have been 7.99 inches of precipitation, a little more than two inches less than the normal 10.15 inches. The average high so far this year has been 41.7; the average low 22.7. By comparison, the average high for a typical first five months of the year is 42.54 and the typical low is 22.9.
