A 28-year-old Algona, Iowa man was arrested on multiple charges Thursday following a high-speed chase through two states.
An officer with the Spirit Lake Police Department observed a red Chevy Impala traveling westbound on Iowa 9 and U.S. 71 at approximately 3 a.m. Thursday. The Impala was going 71 mph in a 25 mph zone, and the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the Iowa 9 and U.S. 71 junction. The Impala, however, eluded officers, and went on to reach speeds in excess of 115 mph through multiple counties before coming to arrest in Jackson County near 780th Street and 370th Avenue.
The Impala’s driver, Klint Wyatt King, 28, was arrested and booked into the Dickinson County Jail on multiple charges, including: eluding (speed/OWI enhancement), a Class D felony; operating while intoxicated-first offense, a serious misdemeanor; and reckless driving, fail to obey stop sign, speeding, driving while license suspended, failure to use headlamps when required, driving on the wrong side of a two-lane highway, no insurance and possession of drug paraphernalia, all simple misdemeanors.
The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Worthington Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
