Two Sibley residents were taken to the hospital after a Tuesday crash in Sibley.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, a 2010 Volkswagen operated by Dustin Pursell, 32, of Siblery was northbound on Eighth Avenue and a 2016 Jeep Cherokee operated by Tina Haluska, 54, of Worthington was westbound on Seventh Street. The report says that the Volkswagen failed to yield to the Jeep, and the vehicles collided in the intersection. The crash took place at about 3:45 p.m.
Pursell and a passenger in the Jeep -- Beth Lindberg, 52, of Sibley -- were transported by Sibley Ambulance to Osceola Regional Health Center. The Volkswagen sustained $10,000 in damages; the jep had $5,000 in damages.
Pursell was charged with failure to yield the right of way. The Sibley Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
In another Osceola County crash on Tuesday, an Ocheyedan man and his passenger were taken to the hospital after a crash near Ashton.
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, a 2001 Toyota minivan operated by Bernard Engelkes, 74, of Ocheyedan was southbound on Iowa 60 two miles north of Ashton and a 2015 Ford pickup operated by Dax DeGroot, 21, of George was eastbound on 210th Street. The report says that the Ford pulled out in front of the Toyota while turning right, causing the collision, which took place at about 8:45 a.m. The report mentions fog in the area contributing to obscured vision.
Engelkes and a passenger in his vehicle -- Timothy Knudson, 67 -- were transported by Sibley Ambulance to Osceola Regional Health Center. The Toyota sustained $2,500 in damages; the Ford pickup had $1,500 in damages.
DeGroot was charged with failure to yield upon entering a through highway.
