The bandshell in Brewster City Park suffered extensive damage as the result of a fire Wednesday night.
The Brewster Fire Department was dispatched to the park at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday for the bandshell fire. Response was speedy, as the bandshell is directly across the street from the city’s fire hall.
The fire began at the base of the bandshell’s back side and spread to the top. The shape of the bandshell made it difficult to gain access to the roof of the structure. Firefighters were on the scene for about 90 minutes and while there is plenty of damage, the bandshell isn’t believed to be a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
