WORTHINGTON - The Early Risers Kiwanis of Worthington are working hard to raise funds for an all-inclusive playground, and they need our help.
Kiwanis International is sponsoring a Legacy of Play contest that could earn the winner $25,000. The Early Risers have entered the all-inclusive playground into the contest, and they need you to go to the site, click and vote!
The contest starts September 14 and continues through September 27. People can vote every 24 hours. The 10 projects with the most votes by noon September 27 will move into a final round of judging. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges and announced on or around October 7.
The all-inclusive playground will be located at Chautauqua Park. This project will have equipment on a rubber surface that is accessible for wheelchair bound individuals, an educational activities panel, musical chimes, and equipment to accommodate everyone.
Early Risers Kiwanis members are confident that funds will be raised so that construction of the playground will start April 1, 2021. The City of Worthington is building a new handicap-approved rest room with an April 1 construction start date, and the two projects will be coordinated to build both at the same time.
While fundraising is going well, help is always needed. There are several ways to do so. Checks can be made payable to Worthington Regional Health Care Foundation, which has pledged matching funds, and sent to Early Kiwanis Treasurer Clair Williams at 224 Clary Street, Worthington, MN 56187.
The fencing around the park will have the names of donors for a cost of $75 each. Contact Loreena at 507-329-2652 for more information.
