Early morning crash claims a life in Murray County

SLAYTON – Charges are pending against the driver of a vehicle who was involved in a one-vehicle crash in the early morning hours Thursday that claimed the life of another person.


According to the Murray County Sheriff’s Office, a call to dispatch through 911 was received at 2 a.m. Thursday regarding a motor vehicle crash on 71st Street south of Slayton. The caller reported a vehicle had gone off the road into a drainage ditch, and one person was trapped in the vehicle.


At the scene, law enforcement determined the vehicle had been traveling west on 71st Street, entered the north ditch and rolled off the embankment into the drainage ditch.

Slayton Fire, the Murray County Ambulance and the Murray County Sheriff’s Office responded, and were able to remove the trapped victim from the vehicle.


The news release states the victims were transported to Murray County Medical Center, where one person died as a result of the crash.


The investigation is currently ongoing, and charges against the driver are pending. Names are not being released at this time due to the active investigation and to allow for family notification.


Also assisting at the scene were two civilians and the Minnesota State Patrol.
