The Worthington International Festival Committee is looking for ideas for their 2021 event and is planning an opportunity for conversations and celebrations that unite the community. Anyone interesting in being part of the discussion should email email@example.com. Current work teams involve Folk and Traditional Artists, Children’s Activities, Food Venders, Ethnic Artisan Booth, Fashion Show, Immigrant Conversations, Publicity, Fundraising and Logistics.
Home Stretch Workshop
Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership invited those interested in purchasing a home to attend Homebuyer Education classes via Zoom for Home Stretch Workshops. The classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. December 8 and 10. Attendance is required both evenings. Class sizes are limited to 25, so sign up early at swmhp.org or call 507-836-1604.
Worthington Farmer’s Market
4 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and 6:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the Ace Hardware parking lot.
Volunteers needed at Manna Food Pantry
Manna Food Pantry is in desperate need of a volunteer to help hand out meat during the harvest truck that delivers to the pantry approximately at 11 am on the first and third Thursdays of each month. If you are able to help, please contact Linda Sanchez at 507-329-1951.
Worthington City Council Honorary Member
The Worthington City Council is seeking people interested in the inner-workings of city government for their Honorary Member program. The Honorary Member serves for three months, attending regular council meetings and participating in discussions. They do not make motions or vote. They attend as able various advisory board and commission meetings, and attend a staff briefing and tour the facilities. They also receive all correspondence directed to City Council, including staff reports and League of Minnesota City publications. There is no monetary compensation, and applicants must be 21 years of age and a resident voter of the city for at least 30 days prior to appointment. Nixle is a community information service via the Worthington Police Department dedicated to helping you stay connected to the information that matters most to you. You can receive alerts for closed roads, weather alerts, safety alerts, missing persons, general notifications, special events, canvassing witnesses for leads and other evidence. October 30 – Halloween Spooky Safe Spectacular
Radio Works, the Worthington Area YMCA and the Friends of the Auditorium have teamed up to bring you two awesome Halloween events! Head to Pioneer Village in Worthington for some Halloween fun from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, October 30, or join the drive-thru event at Memorial Auditorium from 5:30 – 7 p.m. Saturday, October 31. Any groups or businesses that would like to get involved with these great events should contact the Y at 376-6197 or the Auditorium at 376-9101.
November 2-6 – Nobles County Library Autumn Book Sale
The Nobles County Library will host an Autumn Book Sale beginning Monday, November 2 and continuing through Friday, November 6 on the main level of the library in Worthington. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
November 8 – Syd Malchow Fundraiser
A fundraiser will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 8 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Lakefield for Syd Malchow. Hi-Lo Club owner Malchow was diagnosed in August with stage 4 colon cancer. For a freewill donation, there will be a grab and go meal of pork sandwiches, potato salad, beans and a cookie. For those who cannot attend, checks can be sent care of Pastor Dale Hedstrom to the church at PO Box 1010, Lakefield, 56150 or dropped off at First National Bank of Lakefield.
November 13-14 Holiday Open Houses
The Retail Committee of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce is planning Holiday Open Houses November 13-14.This city-wide event kicks off the holiday shopping season, and any business that has products, services, entertainment or food is welcome to participate.
November 14 – Radio Works/United Way of Nobles County Radio Auction
The annual United Way of Nobles County radio auction will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 14.
