Vote for Millard Walker Park today!
WORTHINGTON - Worthington's Millard-Walker park has a basketball court in disrepair, and under consideration for Minnesota Timberwolves “Our Courts. Our Future” funding. All the park needs is votes!
The park is one of three finalists in the Minnesota south region for the funding, and the public is asked to go online and vote at www.nba.com/timberwolves/ourcourts starting today. Click on the link, scroll down to the Southern Region and find Millard-Walker. People can vote once a day through May 20.
Worthington Public Works Director Todd Wietzema applied to the Minnesota Timberwolves Fastbreak Foundation in late April, recommending Millard-Walker Park because of its central location and diverse neighborhood. According to Wietzema, the park's one court has cracked pavement and peeling paint.
If Millard-Walker Park has the most votes after a week of online competition, representatives from the Timberwolves will come into the community with their build partner, Rebuilding Together, to refurbish the basketball court. The work would include resurfacing, repainting and new hoops, with the potential for more work to be done.
Wietzema said the project would be done sometime this summer, with plans for a two-day refurbishing, followed by an official unveiling and community get-together.
Winners of the court refurbishment will be announced live on the Timberwolves Facebook page at 4 p.m. May 24.
