Polls open today for ISD 518 referendum vote
WORTHINGTON - For residents of ISD 518, today is the day to cast your vote for the 2018 Worthington School's Room to Learn, Room to Grow Referendum. Ballots can be cast between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the combined polling place at Lakeside Church, 1000 Linda Lane.
The referendum is for $68.5 million, which would be used to construct a new High School for grades 9-12 on district-owned 155-acre site south of the existing Middle School. The current high school would be reconfigured to be used as a Middle School for grades 6-8, and the current Middle School would serve as an intermediate school for grades 3-5. Prairie Elementary would be used to serve pre-kindergarten through second grade, and the original West Learning Center use would be discontinued.
If the referendum passes, the tax increase on a $115,000 home would be approximately $12.32 a month, and the School Building Bond Agricultural Credit, known as the AG2School credit, means 40 percent of existing, proposed and future construction bond issues on agricultural land would be paid by the State of Minnesota.
According to Superintendant John Landgaard, approximately 1,500 ballots had been received as early votes by Monday afternoon.
