Governor Dayton signs order to assist Rock County
ST. PAUL, MN – Governor Mark Dayton Friday signed Emergency Executive Order 18-06 to provide assistance and emergency relief services to stranded motorists. Heavy snow and strong winds have downed power lines in Rock County, and continued storm conditions are expected to create dangerous conditions for people travelling through the area.
Rock County Sheriff Evan Verbrugge requested the use of the Luverne Armory, and the assistance of the Minnesota National Guard, to shelter affected people. With road conditions expected to worsen, it is likely that additional Minnesota counties may require the assistance of the Minnesota National Guard.
Governor Dayton’s Emergency Executive Order directs the Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard to provide assistance and emergency relief services in Rock County, until the termination of the emergency conditions caused by the winter storm. In addition to Rock County, the Governor’s Order also directs the National Guard to provide assistance in 60 additional Minnesota counties, as needed.
