George house fire victim identified

GEORGE, Iowa - Authorities say the victim who died in a house fire Sunday in George was a young girl. Officials say 9-year-old Riley Meyer was a 3rdgrader at Central Lyon Elementary in Rock Rapids.

Two adults and two children managed to get out of the house. One of the adults sustained minor burns and was taken to the Rock Rapids hospital.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal Division has released a report on the investigation into the fire. Investigators with the State Fire Marshal Division say they believe the fire started in an enclosed porch on the back of the house. The Fire Marshal’s report indicates that the cause of the fire is undetermined, but they do not believe it to be suspicious in nature.

Central Lyon Elementary brought in trained professionals to help the students deal with the death of their classmate.
