Explosion at New Vision Coop Elevator in Brewster

After a full day of the Brewster Fire Department and other area mutual aide departments tending to a grain fire inside a concrete silo, an explosion was reported at the New Vision Coop Elevator in Brewster Tuesday afternoon.

The explosion was reported at approximately 5:40pm and according
to reports, one person was injured.  That injured firefighter suffered a broken rib and a bruised shoulder after being hit by falling debris in the explosion.

Firefighters have been on the scene at New Vision since Monday as workers at the plant noticed a fire in a 70,000 bushel grain bin Monday morning.

The Brewster Fire Department, with the help of the Worthington Fire Department and others,
have been working since Monday to help contain the fire as workers continue to remove the
approximately 15,000 bushels of corn in the bin.

As of Tuesday evening after the explosion debris and scene was contained, Scene Commander John Garmer relieved all firefighters of duty.  On Wednesday morning approximately 10 Brewster firefighters reported back to the scene to extinguish a ground pile of smoldering grain with foam and water.
