COVID-19 update for May 21
MINNESOTA – Another 32 deaths were added to the COVID-19 fatality toll on Thursday, with 28 of the people residents of long-term care facilities. There were 539 newly reported confirmed cases of coronavirus.
This makes Thursday’s 24-hour period the deadliest since the pandemic hit the state and brings the death total to 809. There are currently 566 people hospitalized due to the virus, with 229 of them in ICU.
There have 18,200 confirmed cases in the state since January, with 12,488 of them no longer requiring isolation.
In southwest Minnesota, the rate of cases in Nobles County has slowed, with 18 new cases added Thursday. The total cases reported in Nobles County is at 1,414. Cottonwood County remained the same at 59, as did Jackson at 36. Murray County is still at 33, Pipestone County at 10 and Rock County at 20.
