Christopher Kruse indicted for Brewster murder, arrested Friday

WORTHINGTON - Christopher Daniel Kruse of Worthington was arrested Friday for first-degree premeditated murder in the 2015 death of Janette Pigman-Kruse of Brewster after being indicted by a grand jury in Nobles County District Court.

According to Nobles County Attorney Kathy Kusz, a grand jury met this week and after the indictment was issued on Friday, Kruse was arrested without incident.

In Minnesota, first-degree murder cannot be charged without the convening and indictment from a grand jury. Kusz said the existence of a grand jury is not a secret, but what happens inside the courtroom is not public information.

Jannette died on August 19, 2015, after being shot in the chest while in her bed. According to a 911 call shortly before 3 a.m. that morning, Chris Kruse called dispatch and reported someone had come into the house and shot his wife while the two of them were in bed sleeping. He allegedly told dispatch he did not see a weapon, but had found a shell. Janette was 40 years old at the time of her death.

Because the arrest happened after office hours of the Nobles County District Court, documents regarding the arrest and the case involved were not available. Kusz was unable to comment further.

More information will be available when the court opens Monday.
