Child dies after being hit by pickup in Little Rock, Iowa
LITTLE ROCK, Iowa - A child died after being struck by a pickup Monday afternoon just north of Little Rock, Iowa.
According to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a pickup versus pedestrian crash on 110th Street, 3 miles north of Little Rock.
A 2016 Dodge Ram pickup driven by a 77-year-old male from Little Rock was traveling westbound on 110th St. and approached two UTVs parked on the south side of the roadway. According to authorities, the driver saw two adults working on a field tile in the south ditch and a young child standing behind the UTVs, and slowed to approximately 5 to 10 MPH. As the pickup was passing the area where the UTVs were parked another young child stepped onto the roadway from the ditch on the north side and was struck by the pickup.
The child was taken by ambulance to Osceola Community Hospital in Sibley for treatment of life threatening injuries. The driver was uninjured. Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep said Tuesday morning the child had died from his injuries.
The names of the driver and victim are being withheld pending the outcome of the investigation. Lyon County Deputies were assisted on scene by the Little Rock Ambulance and the Iowa State Patrol.
