KTD Board asks for bigger city contribution

WORTHINGTON - During a special meeting this week, the Worthington City Council heard from two members of the King Turkey Board of Directors, who had asked to be put on the agenda to discuss the city's contribution to the yearly event.

A watershed proposal could result in new recreational area

WORTHINGTON - Okabena-Ocheda Watershed District (OOWD) Administrator Dan Livdahl and board manager Jay Milbrandt presented a proposal Wednesday to the Worthington City Council in which the former Prairie View golf course would become an area that presents opportunities for both water quality and recreation, suiting the needs of multiple organizations.

Pollinator plots ready to grow

WORTHINGTON - The fifth graders from Worthington Middle School were busy as bees Tuesday, planting milk pods and seed for the pollinator acres over by the Prairie Justice Center.

Scott Rall of Nobles County Pheasants Forever said the project involving 260 students was one of the biggest in the state. With 15 acres total, Rall called it a "Cadillac Project." The seed being planted includes 85 varieties of flowers and 10 types of prairie grass.

Worthington School Board approves referendum resolution

WORTHINGTON - The Worthington School Board approved a resolution Tuesday to put one referendum question on a Feb. 13, 2018 ballot to address the overcrowding in the schools by building a new high school. The school will ask for a $68.5 million construction referendum.

Luverne to host 2018 Governor's Pheasant Opener

MARSHALL - Gov. Mark Dayton announced Friday that the city of Luverne will be the host community for the 2018 Minnesota Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener.

“I thank the people of Luverne for graciously offering to host the 2018 Governor’s Pheasant Hunting Opener,” Dayton said. “The Pheasant Opener has become a special Minnesota tradition, made possible by our tremendous host communities. I look forward to another fantastic opener in Luverne next year.”
